Description: In this drawing, digital media and installation “expansion” work, I’ve taken a painterly assemblage approach to visualization. Grid space and flatness, drawing, and the programmability of image making are the concerns in these works. It’s a group of works that’s less about “stream of consciousness” and more about Accidental Narrative in painting, similar to the Surrealist method of "Fantastic Corpse". They have affinities with W.S. Burrough’s "cut-up" method of writing. Process and sequence, while working within the confines of minimal, geometric art, are also concerns. Being digitally printed, hand painted, then assembled, the works explore the possibility of a chaotic, expressionist narrative within a programmed approach to creating painting-installations. The virtual random assembly of the 11 panels was done with web development and coding applications, as well as with the standard suite of digital imaging applications. The creation of these works was a usage of the Distributed Component Object Modeling approach used in the creation of network software applications used by the information technology of far-flung corporate enterprise computing. The conglomeration of multiple objects from multiple distributed locations presents a unified whole. So in each panel the combination of individual painted units makes up the piece, similar to the building blocks in a strand of DNA. Just how random is random? Within a binary based, mathematical, sequential system of assembly, such as the computer, disorder is still possible. Within this disorder lies the possibility of spontaneity - a level of which is necessary for bringing art to life.
